Checking Fluids

Keeping your vehicle in tip-top shape requires constant monitoring of vital fluids. Read you owners manual and look for a diagram of the engine.
Most times there will be a diagram showing where to check all the major fluids.
This should be your starting point. If your manual is lost in the glove box or you never had one, then ask your mechanic or a friend who knows cars to show you all the places to check. There are 4 major levels to check on most cars.
· Engine oil - Usually towards the front of the engine and marked "OIL" Always check your oil level with the engine OFF. Remove the dipstick and wipe the oil off with the rag or towel then put the dipstick back into the hole.
Now pull out and get a reading. You might have to hold the dipstick to the light to get a good reading as fresh oil can sometimes be hard to see. On the dipstick there will be two marks indicating a maximum and minimum level for the oil. Make it a habit of checking your oil every two weeks.
· Transmission fluid - If you have an automatic transmission then you will have a dipstick to check the fluid level. It is most commonly found towards the back of the engine compartment or towards the passenger side. You should find out how to check the fluid by looking at the owner’s manual or on the dipstick itself. Most cars have to be running with the transmission in park or neutral.
Also the transmission should be warmed up to give a true reading. Make sure the car has been driven for a short distance to make sure everything is up to operating temperature. Checking the level is just like checking your oil, wipe off dipstick, replace, pull out again and check level. If you have a manual transmission there is no dipstick and to check the fluid level you must crawl under the car and remove a fill plug.
I would have your mechanic check this for you once a year if you do not feel comfortable doing this.
· Engine coolant - -- CAUTION -- Never open your radiator cap when the engine is hot ! The pressure in the system can send hot coolant splashing out on to you. Most cars have an overflow bottle, which will have level markings.
Keep the coolant between these markings. If you have to open the radiator, make sure the engine is cold.
· Power steering fluid - Your car uses oil to assist in steering the car. The fluid is usually checked at the pump, but can be away from the pump in a separate reservoir.
Like the transmission, this fluid should also be checked when up to operating temperature. Most commonly the level is measured by a small dipstick attached to the cap of the reservoir.
· Brake fluid - On most newer cars you can check brake fluid level without removing the cap on the master cylinder.
There will be level markings on the side of the plastic reservoir. If you have to remove the cover to check the fluid level, be careful not to spill any fluid on the surrounding paint. Brake fluid makes a nice paint remover :-)
· Windshield washer fluid - That's the magic blue liquid that squirts out of your hood.
Most reservoirs have the level marked on the side but some newer cars have them buried underneath everything so you can not see. Just fill to the top, there is no harm in overfilling.
If you need to add any fluids to bring the levels up, a funnel is helpful to avoid spills. Keep track of how often you add oil, and transmission fluid. Frequent additions can point to leaks and engine wear.

Biker's Revelations

I have loved motorcycles from the moment I have mounted on it and roam around the neighborhood. Even though it has caused me several falls, bruises and injuries still, I consider it as a passion. I like the feel of dominion.
The way I can control power and speed. Learning to control something that was, at first, frightening is satisfying.
Learning to control the motorcycle involves both physical and mental prowess. To make turns, rider must lean forward to fight the forces of acceleration and lean backward to fight the forces of deceleration. Concentration is likewise essential so as to focus on the road and other factors that may affect the ride.
Knowing the needs of the bike and knowing your own needs is a good starting ground. The bike must be treated as an extension of the rider's mind and body.
It must respond to the rider's command and will.
Motorcycles are universally appealing. Young and old alike are fascinated by the thrill and fun that they are offering. It is different to riding cars in the sense that the involvement with the machine brings greater joy to riders. Involvement makes it more addicting.
It is as if you are riding with a vehicle equipped with manual transmission. Whatever the consequences of your command are, you will also be part of it.
Your body, your mind are united to achieve a goal and a destination. If those objectives are met, no matter how hard the journey, no matter how perilous the adventure was, it still pays off when you get it!
Skilled riders come in waves. Some young amateurs are now even replacing the guys on top. However, the latter will not put up an easy battle.
I am seeing a brighter future in the riding community... by: Maricon Williams

2006 Pontiac

"The G6 coupe and convertible are uniquely Pontiac vehicles that are great additions to the family started by the G6 sedan," said Jim Bunnell, Pontiac-GMC general manager.
"The G6 coupe delivers outstanding performance and generous interior room, and the G6 is the only hardtop convertible that has room for four adults."
Both the G6 coupe and G6 convertible will be available in GT and GTP models.
The GTPs will feature a 240 horsepower 3.9L OHV V6 coupled to a 4-speed automatic with manual shift mode or a 6-speed manual in the coupe and sedan models - a package that targets driving enthusiasts.
From styling to interior fit, finish and materials quality, interior room to driving dynamics, the new G6 is a solid step up from the old model.
The coupe and convertible models have all-new body panels rearward of the A-pillars. Large, wraparound tail lamps on both models create a distinct look compared to the G6 sedan.
LED-lit Center High Mounted Stop Lamps (CHMSLs) on the coupe and convertible differ from the traditional incandescent bulbs of the sedan's CHMSL.
The coupe's CHMSL is located at the base of the rear window, while the convertible's is a wider lamp incorporated into the decklid, creating a distinct design element.
Powered by the 3.5L V-6, GT models produce 200 horsepower (149 kw) at 4800 rpm with 220 lb.-ft. of torque (302 Nm) at 4400 rpm.
The 3500 engine is backed by the Hydra-Matic 4T45-E electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.
The GTP models are powered by an all-new 3.9L HO V-6, which is rated at 240 horsepower (179 kw) at 5900 rpm with 245 lb.-ft. of torque (339 Nm) at 2800 rpm. It is paired in the standard package with the Hydra-Matic 4T65-E with manual shift mode.
It also is available with a six-speed manual transmission in the G6 coupe.
The GTs use the 4T45-E Hydra-Matic, and the GTPs use the 4T65-E Hydra-Matic, both with a manual shift mode rendered superfluous with only four forward gears
